Job Description:
Are you a skilled CNC Turner looking for more than just running cycles?
An ambitious engineering business working across motorsport and high-performance sectors is bringing machining in-house for the first time. They are moving to a new site and need a confident turner with strong lathe skills to be part of that move, with real opportunity to grow as the team does.
You will work alongside a small team of skilled, design-focused engineers who know their components inside out but need someone who can turn those designs into reality on the lathe - advising on manufacture, material choice and machinability, then delivering it yourself. Turning capability is the immediate priority, though mill/turn skills across both turning and milling would be ideal, and this is very much a growing business: they need someone driven enough to grow with it.
There is genuine scope to move into a Production Planning position and take ownership of machinery H&S and policies as the business scales.
Your responsibilities as a CNC Machinist:
- Set, programme and operate the CNC mill/turn (Mazak Integrex or similar) - working predominantly in steels
- Programme using Mazak conversational programming or an equivalent control system
- Select tooling, work holding and cutting parameters, and prove out new programs from scratch
- Manufacture one-off and small-batch precision components to tight tolerances
- Review designs and advise on the best approach to manufacture, materials and machinability
- Carry out first-off and in-process quality inspection using standard metrology equipment
Your current experience which will help you a CNC Machinist:
- At least 3 years' hands-on CNC turning experience, confidently setting and programming a lathe rather than just operating - mill/turn capability (e.g. a Mazak Integrex), covering both turning and milling, would be ideal
- Confident interpreting engineering drawings and tolerances, and comfortable advising on manufacturability
- Experience with Mazak conversational programming (or an equivalent control) is a strong advantage - CAM experience is also a plus
- A practical, resourceful mindset - happy working things out independently and knowing where to go for support
- Driven and ambitious, with a genuine desire to grow beyond the machine
- Experience with gear machining equipment (e.g. Pfauter or Lorenz) is a bonus but not essential
What you can expect as a CNC Machinist:
- Competitive salary, dependent on experience.
- Varied, technically interesting work rather than repetitive production runs
- Motorsport and high-performance engineering exposure
- Small, close-knit team where your input directly shapes how things are made
- Company pension
- 31 days holiday (including bank holidays)
