Managing Contract Engineer

Location: Reading, RG2 0QX
Salary: Up to £59,700 per annum, depending on experience
Hours: 45 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Questech Recruitment is recruiting for an experienced Managing Contract Engineer to take responsibility for a key customer contract in Reading.

This is a hands-on management role that combines commercial vehicle expertise with team leadership, customer service and operational management. You will lead a small team while ensuring vehicle maintenance, repairs and compliance work are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

The Role

• Manage the day-to-day operation of the customer contract
• Lead, support and develop a Contract Engineer
• Oversee commercial vehicle servicing, maintenance and repairs
• Ensure vehicles are prepared for MOT inspections
• Make sure scheduled work and compliance documentation are completed on time
• Build and maintain a strong working relationship with the customer
• Manage workshop operations, stock control and housekeeping
• Maintain health and safety, quality and environmental standards
• Monitor workloads and performance against operational requirements
• Resolve issues and provide clear direction to the team

The Successful Candidate

• Previous experience maintaining and repairing commercial vehicles
• Experience leading or supervising a workshop or technical team
• A good understanding of vehicle compliance and health and safety
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• Excellent customer service and relationship-building abilities
• Good organisational and administrative skills
• The ability to remain calm and make decisions under pressure
• A full UK driving licence
• An HGV licence

Experience in workshop management, stock control, estimating or holding a relevant management qualification would be advantageous.

This position could suit an experienced Workshop Manager, Engineering Manager, Fleet Engineer, Contract Manager, Workshop Supervisor or Commercial Vehicle Technician looking to progress into a management role.
