Job Description:

Hours: Monday to Thursday 10:00am – 8:00pm, Friday 10:00am – 3:00pm
Package: Negotiable for the right person. Expected first-year OTE of £40,000 for someone early in their career, with top-of-industry commission and no earnings cap.

At Hernshead Recruitment, we specialise in Advanced Engineering, and we’re growing our US Defence desk. You’ll place engineering talent into some of the fastest-moving defence companies in the US, including businesses building drones, counter-drone systems and autonomous platforms.

This is a sales role for someone who wants to win, works hard and sets the standard for others.

Why the US Defence Market:

Defence is one of the fastest-growing engineering markets in the world, and the US is its biggest stage. US fees are typically four to five times higher than in the UK. Building a market takes resilience, but the rewards are significant.

You’ll join an established US desk with embedded partnerships, including clients we’re helping double their engineering headcount. You’ll learn from people already doing it.

Who We’re Looking For:

Ideally graduates or people early in their sales careers, whether that’s B2B, telesales, SaaS, recruitment, estate agency, retail or car sales. We’re also open to anyone with the right attitude.

You don’t need engineering or recruitment experience. You do need:

• Drive: You want to be the best in the room and will put the hours in
• Resilience: You use rejection as fuel
• Curiosity: You’re interested in people, businesses and the technology shaping modern defence
• Standards: You hold yourself to a high bar and lift those around you

What You’ll Actually Do:

• Win new clients across the US defence sector
• Build candidate pipelines and headhunt top engineering talent
• Take candidates to market and manage the full interview process

Why Hernshead, Why Now:

Tom Johnson founded Hernshead in 2019 on the belief that partnerships are more powerful than placements. We’ve since grown to a turnover exceeding £3.5m and are recognised as one of the fastest-growing firms in the UK. We’re now expanding internationally, so joining now means growing with us.

• Top-of-industry commission: Payout for the year so far averages 25% of billings
• A stake in the business: Our new share scheme gives every employee a piece of what we’re building
• Proper training: Structured training and professional qualifications
• Perks: Early Friday finishes, high-end dining experiences, two company holidays a year and time spent in the US

What We Stand For:

• Purpose & Outcome: We measure ourselves on results, not activity
• Delivery & Discipline: We do what we say we’ll do, consistently
• Winners & Standard Setters: We set a high bar and raise it for others
• Urgency & Action: We move fast and get things done
• Obsessive Specialists: We know our markets inside out

If that sounds like you, we want to hear from you.
